The Simple Woman's Daybook for May 21, 2024

For Today Tuesday, May 21, 2024

Looking out my window it's a sunny but cool day here in North east Ohio. It has rained on and off that last few days so it's nice to get outside in the sunshine.

I am thinking that I need to get to the book I checked out of the library three weeks ago. I've been very busy planning, creating and cutting paper and dies for my classes this week. I love doing classes because I have met so many wonderful ladies this way.

The book is called, Forgiving Paris by Karen Kingsbury.  I have read many of her other books so I was interested to see what this book was all about. I'll let you know if I like it or not.

I am thankful for the many blessings I receive. Yesterday God brought to my attention the difficulties one woman has that comes to my classes. She's had ankle issues for several years and has the need for a cane.  She was going to pick up her brother to bring him back home. Home for him is the basement of her house.  Her brother is disabled and should be in assisted living according to her. Instead, he lives with her. I don't know how much care she needs to do for him or what their arrangement is, but it didn't sound like a great situation.
This gal also had a lot of damage to her home from hail last year and is just now getting things replaced now that the insurance money has come through.

One of my favorite things is sitting outside watching the birds in our garden. This is a picture of a female blue bird. We've never had a blue bird at the feeders, so this was a real treat. Not only that, but the male showed up.
We also have goldfinches and house finches here at the feeders.

I am creating cards using the new Gerda Steiner Mole stamps.  The images of moles are from a stamp set called, Little Things. The sentiments are from another Gerda set called, Holy Moley!  The birthday cake was an image I had colored for making kid birthday cards. It looked great with this mole image. It looks like he's blowing out the candles!
The mole actually has dandelions he's blowing with seeds that are flying.
These cards will go to a local Nursing home for residents to use or to a local hospital.

I am wearing my rainbow Crocs, shorts and my purple Isle of Palms tee shirt. It got up to 86 today here in the Cleveland area.

I am listening to one of my favorite Christian artists named Jeremy Camp.  One of my favorite songs of his is, Keep Me In The Moment.

I am learning to truly appreciate things my husband does for me. Today he worked so hard to get our pool opened and running. It is ready to use. This is the earliest it's ever been ready. He usually aims for Memorial Day. His love language is to do things for me. My love language is emotional sharing and touch.

He works so hard to keep things looking great here. He painted the deck, steps and outside of our screened in porch. Tomorrow he will do the inside.  He also loves to garden so he's been busy mulching, cutting the grass and adding perennials where needed in his garden.

In my kitchen all is quiet. I made salads tonight with chicken. It's one of my favorites. We add seeds, nuts, cranberries and crumbled Doritos to make it a taco salad. We use the typical salad stuff but add the extras like seeds.

In the school room I continue to love watching card making videos to learn new fun folds or techniques that I can pass on to students in monthly classes.  I make samples and list the info on a post-it note on the card and store the email with the video and directions in a folder on my computer so it's easy to find when I need it.

In my garden poppies are blooming. We have pink and orange. The salvia is a gorgeous purple. Lilies of the Valley are fading. Annuals are in hanging baskets and bird feeders are up and feeding the different populations that fly in.  The other day we had a medium sized red-headed woodpecker at the suet.

A moment from my day   As I was driving yesterday, this was what I saw in a neighboring yard. There were a bunch of  turkey vultures in the grass that had just been cut.  At first I thought they were chickens, then turkeys and finally after looking at their beak, I saw that they were vultures.  How cool is that?  We never know what kind of animals will show up around here.  Two weeks ago it was a group of wild turkeys!

This is a cute picture of one of our cats. Phoebe is in this box which is actually a scratching box to help with their claws so they don't claw the furniture.  Mia visited yesterday and put her baby in the box like a crib. I guess Phoebe just wanted to keep the baby company! LOL
Closing Thoughts- I got a lot of things done today. It's such a good feeling to cross things off your To Do List.  Tomorrow will be a day for swimming. After that rain will prevail. Seems that our holiday weekend will be wet with rain and thunderstorms. I'm hoping that changes for sure.
Thanks for stopping by.
Blessings,
Bensarmom
