Hey Everybody,
This challenge from Splitcoaststampers is one of my favorites. It is one where people ask for cards to be sent to people who can use some encouragement. Our challenge is to make a beach card for Donna. You can find that challenge here.
Donna has been courageously undergoing chemo treatments for over 12 years and has endured seven surgeries during that time. Most recently, she received a feeding tube to help her stay nourished. Through it all, Donna remains hopeful and determined—her greatest wish is to attend her youngest son’s wedding next April.
I stamped the woman onto a post-it note and cut her out. I stamped the woman on the cardstock and covered her with the mask I had made. I placed a circle in the sky for the sun. I used blending brushes and balmy blue ink to make the clouds. I used torn paper, balmy blue and lost lagoon with my blending brushes to make the water. So saffron was used for the sand on the beach and added dots with my Judith stamp. I added a few plants with my Verve stamp and pear pizzazz ink.
I colored the woman with Copic markers. I added some low profile dots as sparkly things on the beach and added a few butterflies. The sun was colored using a dauber and so saffron ink.

This next card is for a sketch challenge. Here is the sketch.
I turned the sketch and flipped the rounded panels.
I stamped and colored my image with Copic Markers. I fussy cut it and added it to my designer series paper with dimensionals. I cut my smaller panel and stamped my greeting and added it to the designer paper with dimensionals. I added purple gems to the sentiment panel. The large designer series paper panel was added to a crushed curry card base. This will go on a patient dinner tray at a local hospital.

One thing I like about card making is that it enriches all the lives it touches from the person who made it to the person who received it and anyone else who sees it after it has been received. These handmade cards tend to be displayed. Think of how many people might see the card you've made for someone else.
Cards can have a ripple effect. You make a card and send it to someone. Their day is better because they know someone loved them enough to make a handmade card and send it to them. They may treat those around them better because they are happier and more encouraged from the card they received.
Anyway...to me it doesn't matter whether I know the person or not. I've never met a person who doesn't enjoy receiving a card in the mail. It's unusual perhaps to send cards to those you don't know. However, when you have the 'gift' of encouragement and you have the 'gift' of card making, you send cards to anyone! It's a ministry. It's creativity and great for us to do.
I used to tell my husband card making was cheaper than therapy! LOL I stopped telling him that now that I've been stamping for 25 years! It has made me a happier person for sure though. Happy wife, happy life!
