What a Day

Happy 4th of July everyone in the U.S.
We had a cookout today with our immediate family. It was lots of fun.
We also got the closet shelving finished in the basement today. DH has worked hard to cut the wood, stain and seal the wood for shelves and supports.
Today he put the shelves in the closet in the basement, which officially means our basement is finished! Yahoo!
The kids and I spent the rest of the afternoon taking things off temporary shelving in the unfinished side of the basement and transferring it to the finished side in the closet.
We also went through the boxes of things the kids have saved over the years like school papers, art projects, baby clothes etc.
I got each child a large plastic tub which they put their favorite things into. This stores easily under the shelves in the closet. This way, each can put things into their own container. When it's full, they are done.........or they go through it and see what else they can part with.
It's funny, they didn't have trouble getting rid of some of the things in the boxes. It wasn't as important to them now that they are older.
It was fun to read some of the poems and stories each had written over the year. Looking at the art work they had done was entertaining as well.
While we were doing this, DH was napping then got right to the grilling part of the holiday.
He also made the entire dinner! What a sweetie he is.

Here are some cards I made today after resting from all of the work I did today.
Fun Fold Card Tutorial

Inspired by Dawnstampingthoughts.
I followed the directions on youtube and made this cute Fun Fold card. I added ribbon to this to add something to the front of the card.

This is the inside flap and you can see I used whisper white and pretty in pink which was decorated around the edge.

This is the tutorial SCS put out Wednesday. I made mine a bit different in that I used my cropodile and eyelets to attach the bottom corner of the card.
Thanks Sandy for a great tutorial to make this. I made two of them so my upline could have one. This one was stamped with black stazon then watercolored with watercolor crayons and an aqua painter. The edge was done with gold then mounted on choc chip paper. I used Apple Cider paper and turned it over for the corners on the base of the card. I'm not sure which one I like better. What do you think?

The card is colored with cocoa ink using a dauber. I'm not sure which one I like better. What do you think?

I'm so glad you had time to stop by today. I pray that you remember all that soldiers have done for us to keep us safe and free. Tomorrow we'll begin putting together a box of items that will be sent to a soldier in Iraq who is from our church. We'll also add some cards and notes to him to encourage and thank him for what he's doing for us.
We are free but that freedom comes at a cost.
Let's remember that and thank and pray for those who continue to defend our country.
