Hey Everybody,
Today I have a sketch challenge for you. I also have included how I go about making a card from beginning to end.
My hope is that it will help you take on challenges like this when you see them. It feels good to do different layouts and use supplies that have been sitting in a drawer or cupboard. It also gives you a starting point for your card.
When you look at a card sketch, it really challenges your brain. Sometimes it's hard to even get started. Sometimes you just need a process to make it easier.
Here's my process:
Decide what stamp set to use.
Decide if I'm using designer series paper. If I am, what paper?
On this card, I didn't use designer paper, I opted for an embossing folder.
Now that the paper has been chosen, I look at the colors in the paper and choose the inks I'll use for my images(s).
I then decide will I use an embossing folder? If so which one? I knew I had a retired folder with waves on it that would go well with the image.
I stamp/color my image, then emboss my cardstock. Next I used the debossed side of the embossed paper and dragged ink across it so only some of it would be colored.
What will my sentiment be? Will I stamp on the card base or a separate piece of paper. I chose to stamp on a separate piece of paper and cut it close to the letters so it would look like the swirls on my card. Then I added navy cardstock behind it so it would show up better.
Will I use dimensionals to add my image? Most times I do so the image stands out.
Today my card was made for the Sketch Challenge on Splitcoaststampers, found here.
I covered the sailboat with a mask and stamped the water around the sailboat.
I dry embossed the balmy blue cardstock then dragged the balmy blue ink pad across it. I used the debossed side.
I added the image panel with dimensionals and the other panel with adhesive.
The sentiment was stamped in night of navy ink on balmy blue paper and fussy cut. It was added to the card on a navy rectangle.
