Proud Grandma

This morning bright and early I was up at 7:30 a.m. to get ready to attend a Christmas Concert for our sweet 8 year old. I went with Rachel and the 4 year old. The concert was held at William Rainey Harper Elementary School, which is near Ben and Rachel's house. I got to hug my sweety and tell her how proud of her I was and how much I love her. (Win-Win)

I worked in the Parma City School District all of my career. Christmas concerts were elaborate and LONG. I was pleasantly surprised by this half-hour concert. This school is Pre-K to 4th grade. They will add a grade each year. This is the second year the school has been open.

Being there for a half-hour was great. Our 4 year old was tired and didn't feel well with a cough and cold. We got to see the performance, the 8 yr. old and then were on our way back home.
This is the new elementary which was build on the land that originally held William Rainey Harper High School.

Here is a picture of the high school before it was torn down 3 years ago. The interesting thing about all of this is, My father went to this high school! He lived on 60th street. Ben and Rachel live nearby so this new school is the school closest to them.

What are the chances that my dad and granddaughter would go to a school with the same name, in the same place?

I recently posted this tea bag holder. Here are the directions to make them.

This is for those who are grieving for someone during the holidays. Just because it isn't the first Christmas since they've been gone, doesn't mean it doesn't hurt anymore, or that they aren't missed.

Last night, Tim and I watched the 20 year anniversary DVD of this movie. We learned a lot of things from the Bonus sections.

A Christmas Story (DVD)

Ian Petrella Randy A Christmas Story
Randy, gives tours at The Christmas Story House. At least he did 16 years ago. He said he got many requests to sit under the sink like he did in the movie.

He said for the Mama's Little Piggie scene, he was told to play with his food. He stuck his fork in the mashed potatoes and put a glob of potatoes on the fork. The producer walked by and loved it. So every time the scene was re-done, they set it up that way each time.

The four kids were in a hotel for 3 months. They played pranks on the adults in the movie.

When the Chinese Restaurant Scene was filmed, they didn't tell Melinda Dillion, (the mom) what would happen once the duck was delivered to the table. They rehearsed the scene up until the duck was placed on the table. The reaction you see from Melinda Dillion is purely her reaction, it was not acting! Take a look.

The Bumpus Hounds were supposed to run through the house to the kitchen, grab the turkey and run out the back door.

What they ended up doing was fighting over the turkey and growling at each other which made the scene even better according to the actors.

What a fun time we had last night. I sometimes don't like to watch movies again and again, but last night I really enjoyed watching this and learning lots of things about it.

So after the Music concert, I finished Christmas Shopping, then had to head to the corner drug store for a few  more items.
When I got home I tried to work on some cards, but couldn't. I had a headache that wouldn't go away.
So I went up to take a nap.

I found out that my brother from Florida called and was in town visiting mom today. I could have had lunch with him, but my phone was off because of the concert.
I did get to talk to him tonight and as usual, he made me laugh and updated me on how he was.
It was great to talk to him.  He sent a picture of mom and two of the downtown hospital my dad worked at years ago.
He drove down 25th street to downtown to see how it looked. Then he went near the hospital and got some pictures. Sweet memories for another day.

Blessing of the Day: I got shopping finished. Tim and I watched the Cavs win tonight! I talked with my brother.

Thanks for stopping by.
Blessings,

Thank you for the directions tor the tea bag holders. I will be making some for my neighbor -- one for her and then some she can give away. Blessings to you and your family at Christmas and always. It was kind of you to share this cute gift. (I looked at the original site AAACK In German or at least something I don't understand!)
